TheAvt's Top 10 Movies
(Last Updated: 4 May 2009)

What's the difference between real life and reel life?

Have you ever seen a movie that sucked so much that you actually threw popcorn towards the screen? Have you ever seen a movie that you thought you were a part of? If you answered "yes" to either or both of the questions above, you are a true movie-goer!

Welcome to my top 10...

4 May 2009 - Star Trek has pushed The Matrix (which had reigned for 10 years) to the #2 spot and emerged as #1 on TheAvt's Top 10 Movie List

Star Trek #1 - Star Trek

4 May 2009 - This movie is excellent, amazing, fantastic and awesome, not to mention fascinating!  Director J.J. Abrams really pulled it off with this Star Trek.  This movie will most definitely appeal to the younger generation and perhaps make Trekkies out of them!

Without giving away any plot, I have to say that if you haven't watched Star Trek yet, please read the prequel comics titled "Star Trek: Countdown".  This 4-part comic series will explain who the villians in this movie are, where they come from and why they are doing what they are doing in detail.

But then again, if you are a newbie fan, just jump straight into the movie and decide if you want to read the comics later. The movie does explain, via quickie flashbacks, the origin of the villians.

Because Star Trek is such a big deal to millions of people on Earth, it will be no surprise that this movie will be criticised by hardcore, die-hard trekkers/trekkies.

As a trekkie myself (less the uniform and vulcan ears), I dare say that this is perhaps the best Star Trek movie of all time.  And that is why it has kicked my all-time favourite movie, The Matrix, from #1 spot in TheAvt's Top 10 movies to #2.  Sorry Neo!  Hello Nero!

Synopsis:

The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk, is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock, was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before.
